Golf in winter

Golf in winter

I know this isn’t the best time of the year to plan golf, but if you are keen to play come rain or shine, then I have found a brilliant website. It is called “golfinmelbourne” and it is a golf directory of all the golf courses in Melbourne with a few regional ones thrown in for good measure.

The site is divided into regions and it also has a weather widget, so you can see what the weather will be like in Melbourne over the coming week.

I highly recommend having a look.

The web address is: www.golfinmelbourne.com.au

Healthy breakfast loaf

Healthy breakfast loaf

This loaf packs a punch on flavour and nutrients.

Dried fig, apple and sunflower seed bread

The ingredients:

75g (3/4 cup) rolled oats
350ml low-fat milk
300g (2 cups) wholemeal self-raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
100g dried figs, chopped
50g dried apple, cut into small dice
75g (1/3 cup) brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsp honey
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/4 cup sunflower seeds, plus 2 tbsp extra

Place oats in a bowl, pour over milk, soak for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 180C. Line a 1kg loaf tin with baking paper.

Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl and stir in the oat mixture, the dried fruit, sugar, spice, honey, egg and sunflower seeds. Mix well.

Spoon the mixture into the prepared tin, level the top and sprinkle with the extra seeds. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the loaf comes out cleanly. Allow the loaf to cool a little in the tin before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Makes one 12-slice loaf

Bon apetit, and don’t forget the butter.

A new toy from Apple.

A new toy from Apple.

I already own an Apple Macbook (notebook), and and Apple I-Touch Mp3 player, so why am I so desperate to get my hands on the new I-Pad?

Here are a couple of reasons.

All of the built-in apps on iPad were designed from the ground up to take advantage of the large Multi-Touch screen and advanced capabilities of iPad. And they work in any orientation. So you can do things with these apps that you can’t do on any other device. iPad is the best way to experience the web. View whole pages in portrait or landscape on the large Multi-Touch screen. And let your fingers do the surfing. There’s nothing like the Mail app on iPad. With a split-screen view and expansive onscreen keyboard, it lets you see and touch your email in ways you never could before.

I guess what it really comes down to is that I want to be able to sit on the couch and watch TV, while having at by disposal and internet screen to check mail, live scores, weather or just get the answer to the question on ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’ before the end of an ad break.

What would you do with an I-Pad?

I feel like playing golf in Canada

The Okanagan is a popular destination for golf vacations in Canada. Picturesque lakes and vineyards add considerably to the surreal natural beauty of this course. It is open from the middle of March, so now is as good a time as any to jump on the plane and jet off for a round (or two). When you need a break from the putting and driving, there are plenty of other activities available. Enjoy white-water rafting, hiking, and fishing or meet the locals such as elk, deer, moose or mountain goats.

Canadian golf vacations never lack for scenic splendor, but when you move on to the Canadian Rockies you simply have to stand and stare. The splendor of the Banff and surrounding areas is simply awesome. Getting to play golf in these serene surrounds would surely be the highlight of any golf vacation in Canada. Banff Springs, Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club, Silver Tip, and Kananaskis Country Golf Course would be the major attractions for golf enthusiasts. The attractions of the cities of Canmore and Banff in the form of great restaurants and shopping are there to be enjoyed at your leisure.
